Day 2 : The forty springs | 1 Night

Arba Minch

INCLUDES

Breakfast, scheduled flight to Arba Minch, the largest town in southern Ethiopia, set amongst lush green hills and named for the numerous local springs. In Amharic, Arba Minch means “forty springs.” Your first glimpse of the beautiful greens of Ethiopia and a remote culture as you visit the Dorze people. Day 3 : Lake Chamo and Konso World Heritage Site | 1 Night

Konso

INCLUDES

Breakfast, a boat ride in the morning on the lake to Azo Gebeya is perfect for close up photography of hippos and crocodiles, drive to Konso a UNESCO World Heritage site with terraced farming, and stone walls around the villages.

Day 4, 5 : The intriguing Mursi and Hammer people | 2 Nights

Turmi, Omo Valley

INCLUDES

Breakfast. Two days of exploring some of the remotest tribes in Ethiopia. A lovely excursion in Mago National Park to visit the Mursi village. The Mursi are one of the most original ethnic groups, who live in very low huts made of straw leaves. The tribe is famed for their fierce warrior disposition and wildly decorative appearance, with large circular clay labrets that the women wear on the lower lip. The larger the lip plate, the greater the woman’s value when she is married.

The time spent with one the most beautiful and dignified communities in the Omo basin with the Hammer people will be unforgettable. With their striking features, high cheekbones, elaborate beads and leather skirts festooned with tiny pearls, ornate hairstyles and thick copper necklaces -  a photographer’s perfect subject. You will also explore the Omoratte culture with the Geleb/ Dassenech inhabitants of lower Omo River Valley.

Day 6 : The non-nomadic Karo | 1 Night

Konso

INCLUDES

Explore Murulle and the tiny tribe of the Karo people, who reside along the banks of the Lower Omo River. A closer look into the rich cultural symbolism of their rituals, use of ornate body art,  face painting as a means of communication and decoration, intricate headdress, and body scarification to emphasize beauty and status within their community. They paint themselves daily with colored ochre, white chalk, yellow mineral rock, charcoal, and pulverized iron ore - all found from the land. This small but lively tribe of less than 1,000 are the main non-nomadic and is an incredible insight into this rich and proud indigenous people of Ethiopia
